King of the Butterflies

Diann Bartnick's avatar Diann Bartnick

The Monarch butterfly has always been a favorite in people's hearts but is moving close to endangerment. Developers are destroying vast fields of milkweed that Monarchs thrive on. Insecticides are causing great harm. We have reached the point where we have to do something about it or we could lose them forever. One way we can help them is by planting milkweed and using alternatives to insecticides. The Monarchs would love you for it and you might get a chance to see one fluttering by sometime. I plan to make a background for the butterflies using shades of blue glass for the colors in the sky. I formed the butterflies by using paper clay that I make in my studio. I use acrilycs to paint them in their brillian colors. They are sealed in resin.
