LEMON•aid is an experience that combines spoken word poetry with visual imagery to depict the relationship between struggle and triumph in a strained social economic infrastructure. Using poetry, the artist identifies the insufficient “aid” provided to those in underprivileged communities and reflects on the conditions of those who live there. LEMON•aid speaks to the resilience and tenacity it takes to overcome the odds while living in a system that is set up for your failure. This poetic installation draws on the artist’s own experience growing up in a place that has been referred to as the second-worst city for African Americans by Forbes Magazine. Delivered with such raw emotion and words woven rhythmically and metaphorically, while combining elements to engage all of the senses, LEMON•aid is sure to bring about an emotional connection from the audience, no matter the demographic. creating a one-of-a-kind, multi-layered experience.
