Whitewashed City

Brian Meuser's avatar Brian Meuser

My painting titled Whitewashed City is my third in a series on the human condition in city life all over this country. The city leaders and governments in their attempts to attract new business and tax revenue are resurfacing, rebuilding, cleaning and hiding all things they deem as undesirable which at best is a whitewashing of the problems of the city. The problems remain. The homeless, the addicted, the mentally ill, racism all still remain and are very real for many. Until the needs of people are addressed it is meerly whitewash. The painting is a series of white spaces which are clean shiny and new designed to draw your eye from the dark spaces which hold the words and statement of the piece. The piece is mixed media collage on board it measures30 x40 I have added a second panel which is meant to be placed under the wall piece either on the floor or a raised platform it contains figures, and a continuation of the statement all covered in pools of white wash paint it measures 24x24.
