I am showing four pieces in ArtPrize. I created my “Light-Up Male Union Symbol” when I was a senior in college to blend my obsession with lighting and my sexuality into a single piece. I used acrylic panels, fluorescent light bulbs and a pull chain switch to major parts of my foundation. My 2nd piece, “Light as a Feather”, fits in my warped sense of humor with a unique play on words. I combined a banana stand and a mini LED spotlight to shine a brilliant beam of light on a feather. For my 3rd piece, I crafted my “Illuminated Bouquet” based on a bundle of Christmas Lights I saw at a retail store. I gathered the lights and attached them to a table lamp base using cable ties. The red, yellow and blue light bulbs pay homage to one of my most favorite cities: Grand Rapids. My final piece, “Light Duty Tools” reminded me of how much I loved arranging my father’s tools on his pegboard, when I was growing up. I combined a picture frame, pegboard, screw drivers and LED light bulbs.
