"Motorcade" is my tribute to Michigan's continuing contribution to America through the automotive industry. The painting is of the 1972 Lincoln Continental Presidential Limousine used by President Gerald R. Ford and Presidents Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter. The U.S. Capitol Building is in the background. The automotive industry in Michigan has been an integral part of my life. As an automotive coatings chemist, I was 1 of 4 generations to have worked in the auto industry along with many members of my extended family. Little did I know that years of precise color matching would come in handy for my career in painting. It takes many people to build a car from creative designers, through thoughtful engineers and hardworking tradesmen and women. This piece represents my hope that as a country we can refocus our efforts on beauty, integrity, and constructive accomplishments as displayed in automotive design.
