Elizabeth Elizabeth "Libby" Smith

Many of us have parts of our past that we would like to change. Whether it be embarrassing little moments, large mistakes, or an unfortunate circumstance which befell us which we did not ask for. The problem is that we cannot rewrite the past; however, the present and the future are completely ours to do with as we please. My sculpture, Rescripted, deals with the notion of rewriting who you are. At times my life has seemed completely out of my control, a feeling I know many can empathize with. This sculpture, which was made through a plaster waste mold process, is a direct cast of my torso and was my way of reclaiming my own identity. While I cannot alter my past, I can tailor my future and this sculpture is the beginning of that process.
