Newaygo Art Department

Every year the 2nd grade students draw a monster and Newaygo High School art students re-draw their monster in an "advanced" way and create a stuffed animal that looks like the drawing. This year we had amazing community volunteers that showed the High School students how to sew on sewing machines. When all the monsters were completed, the 2nd graders were invited over to the High School to meet their "art partners". During the celebration everyone worked together to create a large collaborative art piece. 3 canvases were covered by the 2nd graders with warm and cool tissue paper. Every 2nd grader created a butterfly on a piece of styrofoam and then enjoyed cookies and punch. The styrofoam butterflies were later printed by the High School students on tissue paper. The High School students attached the printed butterflies to the canvas and many other surprises were added to create the finished piece. We titled it," Create , Learn, Soar to show how everyone can learn from each other.
