War Mandala

Philip Sugden's avatar Philip Sugden

War Mandala. Oil on 225 four-inch square panels. 8 feet high x 5 feet wide. This mounts on the wall (the red area is the wall) with velcro on half-inch spacers which gives the work the sense that it is floating out from the wall. The wall at the venue does not necessarily have to be painted red. However, the work is more powerful with the red wall. The work explores the absurdity and motives for conflict. Each circular layer approaches the topic from a different direction. The center peice is a painted QR code that when scanned with any phone, will take the viewer to a short documentary entitled, "Collateral Murder" taken from Wiki Leaks.
