I have an attachment to old dilapidated structures like barns and farm houses. I also love animals and visiting family farms was a childhood highlight. Perhaps that is why I was drawn to an old photo of my Great Grandma feeding the chickens. This painting is titled "Foraging Open Pastures". Farming was my Great Grandparents livelihood. They migrated from Valdres, Norway settling on farmland that mirrored the bluffs of there native land. After Great Grandpa's passing Great Grandma had to work much harder tending to the chores keeping the animals content. It made my heart soar depicting healthy hens and roosters. They were thriving with seeds, grasses and corn crunches. Along with a healthy diet, sunshine and regular roaming. This ethical combination means more vitamins and better tasting eggs. I enjoyed every paint stroke of this painting. The journey has given me a stronger connection with my late Great Grandma. She knew what she was doing and Got It Right!
