Big Spring Encaustic, birchbark, pussy willow, acrylic, eco-print papers, twigs, wooden painted egg, moss, bark This textural assemblage was inspired by a spring color palette ranging from neutral pussy willows to the mossy greens that were starting to emerge. The transferred text behind pussy willow is from the March chapter of “A Sand County Almanac” by Aldo Leopold, a conservation classic. The sumac leaf and other parts are eco-prints. Eco printing is a type of direct contact printing that draws out pigments from plants to make interesting and often surprising marks.
