Déjà vu

*example artwork is a sample of similar work as this piece is in progress* Déjà vu is a feeling of familiarity. A possible explanation for the phenomenon of déjà vu is the occurrence of "cryptomnesia", which is where information learned is forgotten but nevertheless stored in the brain. Each successive recall of an event is merely a recall of the last reconstruction. This work examines the permanence of memory as life and circumstances change. There is a loss of detail and clarity during the process of recall extended by time and I have chosen to demonstrate this inserting transparent patterns as textures hidden within layers of clear resin that become less and less immediately visible near the surface of the artwork.
