Michigan Cities in Monochromes

Susan Kruszynski's avatar Susan Kruszynski

Though always enthused by creating breathtaking scenes in natural colors from the State of Michigan’s coastlines, beaches, trees, and plant life, her cityscapes began calling to me to be brought to life through the art of quilted fabric landscaping. Choosing the monochromes of black/gray and white with a pop of red here and there seemed an appropriate way of depicting the cities’ underlying vibrancy. Viewers get a glimpse of Detroit’s architectural history, Lansing’s political base, and the energetic growth of cities like Grand Rapids. Collaged together are three 11”x 32”quilted panels of these cityscape scenes. Michigan offers some of the most beautiful beach scenes in the world. Yet, urban adventurers, we invite you to enjoy spending time in her grand cities as well.
