The Voyage

Joe Hull's avatar Joe Hull

The Voyage In the beginnings of history of countries entwined with political and religious commands that drove the poor and wealthy alike to seek new hope in the Americas, long grueling journeys lasting 7 months to a year, children perished due to starvation and sickness given nothing more than a deep watery grave. Passengers were given passage in the belly of the boats in trade for services they could render. Payment was crucial for a safe journey, many were fulfilled and yet still punished. Crowded ships created disease and famine unlike anything we could imagine in our daily lives. Millions of immigrants arrived throughout our early history, bringing with them the voyage of a new hope. A journey of a promising future for them that follow. I often wonder whom my ancestors may truly have been, what vision did they pursue?. What drove them from their native lands? What inspired them to endure the Voyage.
