The Art of Conversation: Tabled for Discussion

The Art of Conversation: Tabled for Discussion is a collaborative, interactive art installation featuring a collection of eclectic tables and chairs. To engage with this art piece, participants must agree to one thing: to put down their cellphones. Depending on which table participants chose to sit at, a timer will be set dictating the length of time they must go without looking at their device. Their sole task is to talk with the person across from them. The purpose of this piece is to demonstrate the innate need for intentional, face-to-face human interaction, the lost art of conversation. The title "Tabled for Discussion" is a play on words. While tables typically stand between two people, and the phrase suggests a conversation postponed, this art installation will instead be used as a way to stimulate conversation and facilitate connection.
