As Above, So Below

This is a three-dimensional ceramic sculpture made out of roughly 200 interconnecting sections around the ideas of how we process individual and collective grief, loss, mystery, faith and global sociopolitical upheaval in the developing world based on a harrowing and formative experience I had living as an American student in a riot zone during presidential elections in Nairobi, Kenya 10 years ago in which 2,500 people were killed. Simultaneously, while living in this near war zone, I received news of the mysterious murder of a close childhood friend here in Michigan when I was weeks shy of my 21st birthday. Art became the communication outlet for me to process this heavy experience and a palatable way to share this haunting but growth inducing story with others in hopes it could help others heal and find places to exhibit pain and loss with beauty.
