This is a Canvas photo with a frame filled with trash from a lake Michigan beaches collected between Tunnel Park and Holland State Park in Michigan. The Great Lakes contain over 20% of all the fresh water on earth. Plastics and pollution continue to be a threat to the pristine beauty, crisp clear waters, and fresh fish. This art piece reflects my interpretation of Ghandi’s quote: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Every week I walk the beach and collect trash along the beach between Tunnel Park and Holland State Park – two well-known beaches in West Michigan. That trash, along with some found driftwood are the basis for my artwork. Through my art, I hope to educate people on the excessive trash in the Great Lakes and inspire people to be part of the change by making a conscious effort to reduce single-use plastic usage and clean up our world – one piece of trash at a time.
