Land Chimes is a field of vertical chimes that translate topography into a melodic instrument that can be played and heard. A level plane will be scribed above a sloping park landscape. Each chime will begin at the plane and extend down to touch the earth, allowing the rising and falling of land to determine each note. At the edges of the installation we will place a container of sticks to be used as mallets. By playing each chime as they walk, visitors will hear the changes in slope as well as tone, amplifying the topography by translating it into sound.
