(SCROLL to BOTTOM for "SAMPLE" VIDEO.) Alicia's entry will be a VIDEO (to be created) -- reciting a poem about her grandmother who traveled from Ireland to America at age 13, without her parents. Alicia was thrilled to visit Ireland & had a strong yearning to write about her visit & precious memories of her grandmother. Her 2016 "Michigan" poem/video (below) shows her voice, performance style, descriptive words, & storytelling abilities (or view at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apsrzo-tCVM) --2017 poem excerpts: "At sea but a week, the ship sprung a leak, She spent days shut up in her room. . . .She thought of the kin-folk who’d journeyed across In a barque, years before, from the town of New Ross, And of other poor souls that were lost in the sea, And she murmured: 'Dear Lord, have mercy on me!' . . .Now–many years after, I still hear her laughter, As this ‘vision’ of her starts to fade; This lovely young girl from a small farm in Ireland. And the perilous trip that she made."
