IInspired by the dystopian novel "Brave New World"; Acrylic and oil on canvas completed digitally and printed on paper. Initially, traditional techniques such as oil on canvas have been used to develop this work. Later the creative process has been transferred into the digital realm, into medium that corresponds to the subject matter of the painting, i. e. an imagined (im)possible future placed in between utopia and dystopia. The tension between the tangible material of paint and canvas and the ethereal realm of the digital painting explores the tension between dystopia and 'reality'. Both utopia and dystopia refer to non-existing places and structures of future societies. Yet these places, as described in the novel "Brave New World" seem so real and attainable. How could these dystopian 'visions' relate to our present then? This tension is further explored by the relationship between figurative and abstract elements in the work.
