"Over, Under and Around" is an installation of 24 weavings on hula hoop looms created by approximately 30 student artists in grades 6-12 from Penwater Public School in Pentwater, MI. The weavings are comprised of intertwined various fibers including upcycled t-shirts, blankets, yarn, beads, plastic and even Christmas garland. The fibers are connected and suspended from ordinary hula hoops borrowed from the PE department. Some hoops were worked on entirely by one student, others were woven by the hands or 6 or 7 from various classes. This work is colorful, playful, inviting and visually stunning! As a versatile 3-dimensional installation each hoop can be hung separately or linked, suspended like a mobile or fastened to a large wall. Physically connected to each other or apart in a series, this work lends itself to a multitude of exhibit configurations. These hoops are "Looms of Love" presented by the student artists of the "Tight Knit" community of Pentwater, MI!
