Work Is Done

My Grandfather Edward, a WWII Veteran, described a soldier coming home with a rifle in hand, looking very tired. Edward often described this image he envisioned in his mind. It reminded Edward of going home after war, "work is done". Every time my Grandfather discussed the scene, it created a vision within my mind. This is what inspired this strong imagery, color usage, & heavy application of texture represented within this triptych (consist of three 48x36 canvases). I am also chainsaw carving a bench so viewers can sit & remember the fallen & those who have served our country. The stresses & traumas of battle weigh heavy on a soldier for a lifetime. Rain signifies a hopeful cleansing of the troubled heart, mind, & soul of our fighting men and women. The soldier walking off into the distance represents a soldier coming home, coming home to the Lord or coming home to the friends, families, & loved ones that have patiently awaited their arrival. God bless all that serve
