“Butterfly” reflects the beauty of Butterflies around the world. The seemingly effortless flight and incredible spirit of these winged creatures enhance our lives and are honored in this floating sculpture designed specifically for the B.O.B. and their wonderful display space provided. The 7 foot by 7 foot, sculpture floats in the air, giving the illusion of flying. Using hand dyed silk panels, sandwiched between Baltic Birch (eight - 4ft x 4ft sheets), these 4 large Butterfly wings are connected together within interlocking wooded layers in a 6 inch by 6 inch space in the center of the body. Butterfly contains 184 cut out holes and 29 individual wooden pieces. The lightweight hand dyed china silk allows light to filter through each opening and viewing from either side and on any floor of the B.O.B. As an artist, the design & creation is pure joy whatever the medium. BUTTERFLY was created in memory of my sister Donna, and sister-in-law Kathy, and should bring a smile to all ages. Butterflies Rock!
