Blooming Litter

Amy Deal's avatar Amy Deal

We live in a disposable society where enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times. "Blooming Litter" is created with plastic waste found from trash bins that were headed directly to the landfill. Plastic pollution involves the accumulation of plastic products in the environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitats, and humans. Plastics that act as pollutants can unfavorably affect lands, waterways and oceans. Because persistent organic pollutants in the marine environment attach to the surface of plastic debris, floating plastics in the oceans have been found to accumulate pollutants and transport them through ocean currents. Plastic debris is polluting the human food chain. Plastic buried deep in landfills can leach harmful chemicals that spread into groundwater. It's time to take a stand and address our addiction to plastic.
