"Foo-Odd" Table

A double cantilever style coffee table, originally inspired by Michigan's upper peninsula. In the original table, the two slabs of granite originated in the U.P., are held up and in place by a frame-work of beechwood, a species native to the same area. The open structure provides strength without being too bulky under the large slabs. The lake water hue of the wood was achieved by submerging and soaking in a pool of water with fabric dye. This serves to enhance the woodgrain as well as add color to the piece. The images shown are of the original table and a second iteration. Materials and hue vary between version, but the design remains constant.
