Michigan's DUNE GULLY

Linda Daul's avatar Linda Daul

Lake Michigan’s coastal sand dunes are one of our state's most spectacular natural features and among the most fragile ecosystems in the world. We have a responsibility to protect, preserve and restore this natural legacy for present and future generations. Protecting these irreplaceable coastal sand dunes begins with American's understanding this unique place. My mosaic storyboard seeks to share the current condition facing Ludington’s coastal dunes. The grandfathered entitlement of one company is illustrated; mining, dredging, then trucking away Michigan's critical dunes for the fracking industry. Efforts to protect these dunes have failed to engage Michigan legislators, DNR and DEQ agencies. Perhaps the power of this piece will provide inspiration and an appreciation for the western shore of Michigan. Bring my mosaic to life with a hike through the dunes at Ludington State Park.
