Unknown Ferrotypes - Created by Dylan Slater

Ferrotype or also known as tintype is an old photographic process from the 1860's. This process takes direct positive images onto metal. I started creating tintype photographs because of the unique qualities that come with this artistic process. Every time you create an image, it is always different. For this project, I chose to include a total of 35 tintype images. The tintypes I created are mostly portraits. I love engaging with the person I am photographing, especially with this old photographic process. The mount created for these tintype photographs is approximately 350 year old Western Red Cedar. It was salvaged from an old barn and milled down to be reused for this project.
