National Washboard Co

This piece was created using a vintage washboard, photograph, drawer pull, dominos, finial, and packaging material. The packaging material was painted with rusting paint and copper paint. The metal frame was found in the trash. There will be an addition to the assemblage called a chatelaine. This was a series of short chains attached to a woman's belt for carrying keys and other small items such as sewing items. I started going to flea markets six years ago, and was drawn to all the discarded photographs and items from daily life that were no longer treasured. I started to assemble them to honor and remember the women from our past. The movable metal frame is symbolic of our ability to reframe our lives. The dominos with their double numbers are a subtle reference to the double standards of our society.
