In the African Akan language, the greeting "Akwaaba!" means "Welcome!". In a formal setting, the greeting is accompanied with traditional music, foods, and dances that introduce the people to you, and welcomes you to be a part of the family. Our songs, drumming sequences, and dance performances cover a range of musical and dance genres that celebrate different cultures in Africa. From Sierra Leone to Congo and from Rwanda to Cameroon, we purposely married Africans with different backgrounds in this exhibit to tell their stories and celebrate their cultures. You are welcome to celebrate with us. Akwaaba!
