My portfolio is comprised of figurative oil paintings and drawings from photos that I take or that are submitted to me. As a means of organizing my thoughts and finding direction, I work through thematic projects. One of the several that I am currently developing is "The Emoji Project." I am interested in the psychological effects of technology on our ability to connect with each other. This project features a series of self portraits of myself mimicking the emojis on the smartphone keyboard. this project has kept in several directions. Toward a friend who is married to a former NFL player who suffers from dementia and toward a friend and liver transplant surgeon who hands give new life to sick patients. Parallel to The Emoji Project, I am making a series of drawings from photos I surreptitiously take of amusement park visitors. With each piece, I do my best to observe the immediate humanity at it's best and worst and be inspired with empathy and creativity.
