Creature Comforts

Rob Reyers's avatar Rob Reyers

My entry is inspired by the creatures of Leelanau County. From the sandhill cranes seen in the fields near Port Oneida while driving along M22, the numerous birds who inhabit the forests near hiking trails and fox who roam near cottages and roads looking for their next meal, these creatures are all an integral part of the Up North experience. As a hobby, I mainly draw in cartoon and comic book style. I wanted to bring that same aesthetic to this piece with bright colors, bold shapes and details that are not overly ornate. Each piece is drawn and inked on panels of wood and colored with marker, pencil and acrylic. The panels will be hung together in an area roughly 100" x 80".
