Humble Life

Coming to America without my family was difficult. Language, American culture, and advanced education were overwhelming. Furthermore, I ended up in a very religious school in the south. As a teenager who had lived a relatively easy life, I faced my biggest challenge. Secularly and spiritually, I did not know how to fit in. I did not know if Jesus exist or there is never god. Gratefully, I made some friends and they helped me through my adversities. With their help, not only did I fit in my new society, but most importantly, they helped me to explore who I am as a person, an artist, and an immigrant. Whether was the prayers during mission trips, the practices under the Atlanta sun, the volunteering works in poor urban area, or the dances at the open lawn, I learned to live a humble life of hard work, sacrifice, giving, and joy. As a result, my painting wants to give insight of a journey of an immigrant boy finding himself in the deep, religious south.
