Superior Night Reflections

Lake Superior, is our chameleon lake, ever-changing, and always so inspiring. Northern lights are ethereal, and paired with our "mother lake"; how can one not be inspired? Using a water color batik on rice paper technique; provides vivid colors. Paraffin wax is utilized in saving whites, and lighter colors, progressing to darker colors, and finishing with the entire piece coated in wax. The painting is sandwiched between several pieces of newspaper, and a warm iron is used to draw the wax out of the painting. This process can be repeated a few times, to ensure all wax is removed. At this point the painting is complete, although final touches can be added with paint, inks, or chalk.
