Fieldwork; A Modern Exodus

Owen Brown's avatar Owen Brown

Fieldwork is a 24-foot long scroll, to be printed on Duralar, a matte plastic, by Magnolia Editions in Oakland, Ca. It is a series of illustrations, abstract, realistic, & in-between, that accompany the poetry of Emily Wolahan. Emily's poetry, allusive & beautiful, deals with issues of terror, forced immigration, torture, despair, & love; germane, alas, to the events of the day. Emily & I have been collaborating on the project for over a year. I have received an artist residency this July in France, to finish the scroll's artwork. I have uploaded 3 images: one a small section that shows poetry and image, two which show possible directions for the work - ethereal, in and out of focus, with delight for the eye that's supportive without being intrusive. We want to display the work not because it is artful, but because we live, now, in a world needless terror. Our hearts are too often closed. We hope Fieldworks will open some and, thus, open viewers to compassion, as well.
