Icarus Series: Dreams Deferred

Margaret Vega's avatar Margaret Vega

For me, the myth of Icarus holds the metaphor for the balance of dreams and the challenges/risks we face to achieve them. Dreams Deferred, is about the uncertain relationship created pursuing ideals while faced with delays; some imposed or imagined, some cultural, financial or familial. Clouds reference a non- specific sense of place. I use the blackboard to inform the viewer of the reconstruction needed to pursue dreams over obstacles, barriers, social norms, cultural stereotypes, expectations and labyrinths. This panel of erasures, is the dialog of a dream; the schematics needed to go beyond difficult situations that threaten to restrict, reroute, end, modify or defer our dreams. .
