In my work, I explore themes of traditional American domesticity, gender roles, and the outcome from the manifestation of relationships with these commonalities. Through powerful imagery and an emphasis on materials, I create narratives that traverse these concepts. Avowal is a time-based installation piece which incorporates metaphorical materials examining the dreamlike state, or nightmare, of an ending relationship. The piece re-creates a bedroom, a sacred and shared space which often holds the weight of relationships. A towering wall composed of tiny obsessive text, a bed full of soil and grass seed, and concrete pillows make up the objects and imagery used in this symbolic installation.
