Looking Up

Living in a northern state like Michigan, the winters are exceptionally gray. For me, the lack of sunshine during the winter months leads to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, an aptly named condition). Last March (2016), my husband surprised me with an Eastern Caribbean cruise he booked for January (2017). While on the paradise island of St Thomas (USVI), I looked up to see the sun peering through fronds of this stately palm. There were delicate clouds attempting to soften the sunshine. In February, feeling down as I was back in the gray state, I painted this as a reminder of the warmth and happiness that I had felt.
