Little Owl

Donna Mitchell-Collins's avatar Donna Mitchell-Collins

When I started the piece for this year’s show, I knew it would be for my Dad, Dan Lee Tucker. My Dad lost his battle with gastric cancer last year on the day that ArtPrize 2016 opened - September 21, 2016. He lived his life passionately, loved his family dearly, and praised the Lord daily. His entire career had been dedicated to preserving and protecting our natural resources. He was a wildlife biologist for the Michigan DNR for 35 years but more importantly he was the truest compass I ever knew. Even though he is no longer with us, I can still feel his spirit all around me. His favorite of all animals was the owl, so I knew I had to start there. So here is to you, Dad! As we stare into the wise eyes of this small creature we will see you staring back.
