From an early age I had moved more than anyone I knew and I studied the way people interacted to make friends. This habit has carried with me into my adult life and I continue to watch conversations and listen in if I can. I started documenting these moments with fluid anxious mark makings. It is hard for me to make work like that now. They were messy and ridiculous (my words). I wanted to control them. I started a new series of work that became my way of controlling and cleaning up the mess before me. Structure is the new me. These paintings have become something like a portrait of my life, my strive for perfection and positivity in a world that demands the former. From mapping out the shapes, mixing the colors, revealing the edges, each is a crucial step in accomplishing something that I can control. An unclimbable staircase that is perpetually mine and how I react to it. The piece will evolve and grow around each new space as I take in the experience, and expose my truth.
