Half of all proceeds in Artprize 9 will be donated directly to Michigan food banks. ------ Intention of the installation is to provoke discussion surrounding our nation's children living in food insecure environments. Approximately 20% of US children don't have adequate daily nutrition. The images of the hands represent the average secondary public classroom. Installation of 28 lithographs on muslin hanging together in the formation of classroom rows. Each image is a unique hand printed lithograph, independently suspended from fishing line. The open hands represent those children living in a food insecure household. The students of Abbott Middle School volunteered to model for the images. Link via printed QR codes for more information. With funding of school lunch programs in danger, students may fall further into poverty, we need to look with great concern at the challenges our children face on a daily basis.
