Giwa is a hanging bead art installation based on a traditional oriental roof. Every single 25mm crystal bead hangs by fishing wire underneath a rectangular wooden frame, creating a motif based on the roofs of Hanok (Korean traditional houses) near where I grew up and lived until my late twenties. Missing my home country inspired me to create an object that provides me comfort when working beneath it, drinking coffee, reading, or simply looking at it. The fascinating beauty of the assembled crystal beads is the language by which I manifested my cultural identity into a piece of artwork.
