Forma Futura

My work explores the super-synthetic facades of the technologies that saturate our lives. My concerns oscillate between the desire to re-insert the body in to virtual experience; and/or materialise physical objects from the virtual. My plastic sculptural forms are made using the plastic filaments intended for 3d digital printing. By using the ‘3d-pen’ I replace the computer with the human hand in a kind of nostalgic, futile but beautiful gesture. Through creating large-scale immersive artworks, I subvert the materials of high-tech, digital culture, using a process that alludes to the handmade and tactile. Through this practice I aim to create an uneasy optical space where craft traditions such as weaving, knitting, basket making etc, are juxtaposed with abstracted virtual space, hinting at neural networks, cloud computing, information and bio-systems.
