Route Irish

Project Title: "Route Irish." Airport Road in Baghdad, Iraq is known to be one of the most dangerous roads in the world. This road stretches only 12 kilometers (approximately 7.5 miles) but is known to all that have been overseas as "Route Irish." This road my brother, Jacob, knows well. He has served in the United States Air Force for the past 15 years as a vehicle operator and has been on five deployments each varying from 12 to 15 months. During his deployments he ran convoys down this, and many other roads like it, traveling thousands and thousands of miles realizing that the unknown always lies ahead. His vehicle was his home for most of the duration overseas. On his last tour he drove this particular truck and his service was my inspiration to create “Route Irish.” I built this to-scale truck as a mirror image of the real one he drove basing every piece from his stories and pictures. The road will be depicted as if it were blown up with debris laying everywhere. To me this piece makes a statement and I want to share it with the world.
