Crossing Over

Crossing Over was inspired by our trips to Michigan, throughout my childhood. The trips were road trips, in the family station wagon. It was a lovely ride- water, flowering trees, forests, and the bridge. With the innocence of a child, our trips became fairytales, filled with wonder, and delight. As a child, I thought nothing of the bridge, but my father did. He strived to reach it in the night, so he could cross it in the dark. In Crossing Over, the bridge is my interpretion of the bridge as a child. As an adult, I know the bridge is Michigan's own, the Mighty Mackinac Bridge. Crossing Over is Watercolors on silk. Texture is added using various fibers, including silk ribbon, vintage silk thread (including some from Belding Michigan), vintage metal thread, beads, and vintage jewelry. Crossing Over honors my mother and her 2 sisters- one of which lived in Pontiac, Michigan. It seems to me, that their spirits are one, with the landscape in Crossing Over.
