We can outrun anything

Valerie Wahna's avatar Valerie Wahna

Artist Statement Valerie Wahna is an artist, designer, and maker who lives and works in Grand Rapids, MI. Originally from Ohio, she graduated from Kent State University with a BFA in printmaking. She taught at Kent State and then spent her corporate career working in retail store design. Her artwork has been shown in galleries in Ohio and Michigan, and her retail work has been executed in the US, UK, Australia, and Malaysia. These pieces span different media and come from multiple series, but share central themes of layered identity and shifting ties to home. Forms appear, drip, shatter, rearrange, overlay, and retreat for protection. The opposing processes of revealing what hides and hiding the unwelcome live side by side in these metamorphic works. The work shown: digital artwork from scanned woodcuts layered with photography and hand drawing and Ready to hang
