One of the images I am submitting for this competition is an archival pigment print of a black and white photomontage. It was computer assembled from many photographs using a rigorous selection process and implementing formal composition. This work emerges like a novelty postcard sent from mid 20th century America. Its narrative is constructed from thoughts and visuals gleaned from Pop Art, Surrealism, television, film, Madison Avenue and nostalgic memories. I am playing with America’s embellished past by presenting a staged scene where reality and fantasy coexist. My objective for ArtPrize is to exhibit this black and white image next to a duplicate enhanced with color. Can color add value to the original work or will it detract from it? The viewers will decide if it is a successful application.
