In One Breath

My “Bubbles” series evokes a sense of the primal fragility and delicacy of life. Caught in a moment of time, surreal colors dance upon the tenuous surface of a bubble as it floats in a still breath. Bubbles are paradoxically born of surface tension, yet are both transparent and reflective. Life also is at once tense and weightless, and encapsulates a rush of love, wave of sadness, or moment of peace simultaneously. We must pause to appreciate these paradoxical moments and feelings. In this moment of time, a still, foggy morning on Diamond Lake, a single breath produced bubbles that floated on an imperceptible wind and slowly faded into the mist. They were caught between slumbering twilight and the unfulfilled promise of the coming day. The beauty of this piece lies within the randomness and discovery of life. The magic lies within harnessing a single, fleeting moment and capturing its power in the permanent work of art. What draws the eye is the distinctness of the bubbles against the landscape, almost transporting the viewer into another world where the ordinary and the tangible coexist with the magical and ethereal. What I set out to achieve in this piece was to transport the viewer into a frozen moment in time so each person could explore the random, orderly, tense, soft, surreal existence of a moment of life, produced by A Single Breath.
