The Still within the Danger: Immense_ As an artist I have always been drawn to the intensity of powerful storm clouds and the alertness they give. I’d love to capture the heart sinking moment, a helplessness feeling when you realize there’s nothing you can do. Therefore in Immense a vast gray impending thunderstorm, I focus on the change in the atmosphere or the dark invasion of a thunderstorm to a stable sky. In other words the “Calm” before the storm. I ponder on what makes people feel worthless and little? Also, I am interested to learn why viewers are attracted and intrigued by natural disasters. I attempt to capture the moment of a calm just prior to the dangers of an approaching storm front. Demonstrated in the lower section of my painting within the green/blue section that separates the land from the storm. It is the still within the danger. These forces are right next to us everyday, but it only takes one change in our atmosphere to release the storm.
