Dyed In The Wool

Ilene Berman's avatar Ilene Berman

Dyed in the Wool is a series of site-specific installations addressing our deeply ingrained neglect of education, most specifically in under-resourced neighborhoods. Using the language of care implied by textile techniques and the subtle palette of industrial felt, the viewer is asked to consider our willingness to toss aside the concerns of educators and families when addressing education reform. It is an honor to place the desk carcasses in the Tower Room of the Fountain Street Church, where their installation in rows becomes a memorial to opportunities lost in the political posturing of the education debate.
