“Reaching Upward” * combines the artistry of quilted story panels and the magic web of storytelling -- The warm and inviting tale of an old pine tree mentoring a young spruce along an upper Michigan shoreline. Together with the story on audio, fabric panels depict the giving and taking of a helping hand; a story that speaks to the inner child within us. Because the never-to-be-forgotten story, “Reaching Upward” called to me through the years, in 2016, I spent eleven months transforming this vision into an artistic reality. Almost 50 years of experience producing colorful fabric creations merged with a life's work as a master storyteller and PhD in education. Early viewers of this entry overwhelmingly encouraged me to share the message with the broader audience of ArtPrize. Eleven quilted landscape panels, with an accompanying 4-minute, 4 second audio story. Each panel is 36’’ tall x 28’’ wide; linear = 27.5' wide. * "Reaching Upward" story rights obtained from MSU.
