423: Mathematics in Art

Emily Lynch Victory's avatar Emily Lynch Victory

MATH. ART. MUSIC. My goal has always been to provide viewers with a rich mathematical experience. Perhaps showing them past the numbers and symbols, directly into the beauty of mathematics. The exhibit consists of large-scale, acrylic paintings that use number systems to determine all aspects of the work. New musical compositions have been made following the same mathematical number systems as the paintings. The numbers used were drawn from dates of the ArtPrize show, measurements of the exhibit space, & the zip code of Grand Rapids. Audio recordings of the music will play from the 4, 2, and 3 speakers embedded in the artwork. Pamphlets explaining the mathematics and our calculations will be available to all in attendance. Therefore, making mathematics accessible to all.
